Charles Gaa

Principal Adviser

Charles Gaa is the Principle faculty adviser for the UOIG and works closely with the management team. Professor Gaa’s research interests include tests of market efficiency, information environments, and the role of investor attention in financial markets. Charles was employed as a senior analyst at the Bank of Canada prior to pursuing his doctoral studies.  He holds a B.A. from Queens University, a M.A from University of Alberta and a Ph.D. from the University of British Columbia.

Ro Gutierrez

Ro Gutierrez is an assistant professor of finance. His research focuses on the pricings of stocks and bonds, the informational efficiency of the financial markets, and the efficacy of trading strategies. Dr. Gutierrez’s research has been published in the Journal of Finance, the Journal of Business, and the Journal of Financial Markets. He holds a B.S. in mathematics and economics from Tulane University and a Ph.D. in finance from the University of North Carolina. Dr. Gutierrez has taught courses in investments and asset pricing at the undergraduate, M.B.A., and Ph.D. levels.

Larry Dann

Larry Dann

Larry Dann is a Professor of Finance and Taxation. He served as the lead advisor of the UOIG for several years.  The UOIG is very grateful for the hard work and time that Larry has contributed over the years.  The group would certainly not have been as successful without his dedicated help and assistance. Larry also teaches classes in financial valuation at the College of Business.

Beth Hjelm

Beth Hjelm

Beth Hjelm has more than twenty years of experience in financial management, marketing strategy, organizational planning, and performance improvement. Prior to joining the faculty at the Lundquist College of Business, she headed a consulting firm focused on strategic management and new venture start-ups. Hjelm was a member of Coopers & Lybrand Consulting for fourteen years. Her functional practice focused on delivering services to the chief financial officer and the financial organization, and her industry focus was the telecommunications industry. Hjelm is a co-author of Reinventing the CFO: Moving From Financial Management to Strategic Management (McGraw-Hill), which presents a vision and an implementation methodology to develop best practices in the financial function.
